| Description: |
The Hunter 19 is a small cruiser / racer based upon the Squib keelboat. Despite their small size they are surprisingly quick, and with the design having an emphasis on sailing ability rather than accommodation they are a great introduction to proper sailing adventures. Having a good displacement ratio makes for a forgiving and stiff boat which looks after the crew well. Black Rat is based on Rutland Water and is drysailed, despite having a fin keel and drawing 3ft. |

We accuired Bombard in 2007 and keep her in Swansea Yacht Club. |

| Description: |
The Westerly Centaur was designed in 1968 by Jack Laurent Giles as a more modern and roomier replacement for the existing Westerly 25. She was probably the first mass production yacht to have had the design tanktested before a prototype was built, and this, plus Laurent Giles's earlier experience with bilge keel designs, was probably the reason for the Centaur's good performance under sail. Looking at a roomy boat with good headroom and a powerful diesel makes many people regard Centaurs as motorsailers. They are not they actually sail very well, although as bilgekeelers they are always going to be slower to windward than similar sized finkeelers. |

| Description: |
Built in 1904 by Edwin Rowles at Pill near Bristol, Cariad Welsh for Dear One is one of the oldest Bristol Channel pilot cutter listed with the National Historic Ships Register. The Bristol Channel was probably one of the most dangerous shipping lanes in the world with its huge tidal range, sand bars and rocks. At the height of the coal trade in the latter half of the 19th century thousands of ships were making for south Wales ports , each one looking for a pilot for the last leg of the journey. These cutters are generally seen as the most successful fore and aft rigged boats built during the age of sail, their function being to ferry out pilots to shipping making for Cardiff, Newport and the other Bristol Channel ports. Speed was of the essence for these craft as the first pilot to a ship usually got the job, and given the nature of the currents in the channel sea kindliness was a must. Cariad spent most of her working life with Pilot Thomas Richards as a Cardiff pilot cutter and was the last sailing pilot cutter in 1922. Later she became a private yacht owned by Frank Carr who wrote about his experiences aboard her in ‘A Yachtsman’s Log’ She is still privately owned and recently underwent a full refit at Bristol. |

| Description: |
Based at Carsington, a Derbyshire reservoir, Four Sisters is a Cardigan Bay Lugger designed and built by Matt Newland of Swallow Boats. Since being built in 2006 she has been trailed every summer 1300 miles to the Ionian and back, a role she was designed for, and has also attended Le Semaine du Golfe twice. Other launch sites include Lake Bala and the Teifi estuary. She has a crawlinanddie cuddy, is ketch rigged with a balanced lug main and sprit boom mizzen.Hull is epoxyply, glass sheathed. Ballast is 90kg of lead, removable for trailing. She has a 4hp outboard when it works and oars when it doesn't but she does not row easily in any wind. She could sleep two but few have managed to survive the owners snoring at such close quarters so on shore camping is usually preferred. Her owner has used her as an excuse to write a number of articles for the yachting press some of which have been published and even paid for. |

| Description: |
Believed to have been built on the River Thames in about 1920, although her origin is not known, she is a typical racing dinghy of that period of solid mahoghany with her mast well forward and heavy steel centre plate. She was owned for 45 years by the previous owner until he was 80. She was used as a development cruising dinghy in which he tried out many ideas for making life aboard as easy as possible. The present owner continues the same process as he sails, mostly single handed and camps aboard while cruising mostly in his home waters of the Solent. She attended Seafair Haven 2006 and Semaine du Golfe 2009 and other events. |

She is a 14ft long dinghy built by Woodnut, with 120 sqft of sail. The hull is particularly suited to estuaries and open water such as those found at Chichester and Milford Haven. I have trailed her to west coast of Scotland and also to Denmark and sailed in The Baltic Sea. Previous events have been Bristol (1996), Gulfe de Morbihan (2003) and Seafair (2008). Other years we have taken the boat of my crew, Chris Evans, to similar events including Morbian (2007 & 2009) and Seafair (2006). |

| Description: |
Sea Fever is a National 18 racing dinghy which I have converted for cruising. I use a Wayfarer rig so that I can sail her singlehanded but with the option of taking 2 crew. The hull is GRP and the deck varnished ply. I can camp on board with a canvas cover. She was used for racing up until 2007 when I bought her. Since then I have cruised on average 7 or 8 weeks per year at various locations around the UK; Falmouth, Chichester, Salcombe, Milford Haven, North Norfolk, Holy Island, Orwell, River Moray, Firth and Loch Crearan. |

| Description: |
Vera Causa took part in the 2008 Seafair Haven, when she was part of the Sail and Oar Flotilla based at Llangwm. She is a restored example of a Skipper 17 dinghy, built in 1979 by Anderson, Rigden and Perkins of Whitstable, Kent. The Skipper 17 was designed around 1963 by Peter Milne, whose other famous projects included the Fireball racing dinghy, the Nicholson 27 and the Stag 28. He designed Donald Campbell's Bluebird 320 waterjet-powered speedboat and his Bluebird 520. The Skipper 17 has the almost unique feature of twin (side-by-side) steel centreplates, which are fully retractable for easy launching and recovery from a trailer. The plates provide stability while avoiding the need for an obstructive casing down the middle of the cabin. Vera Causa was sailed for many years on the Norfolk Broads by various owners before being bought by a member of the Rhymney River Sailing Club in Cardiff, who sailed her on the Bristol Channel. I bought her in 2007 and, after restoration, brought her to her new mooring on Llyn Clywedog in Powys, 280 metres above sea level. |
